"Can't Hold the Mic" Cultural Awareness: WHO R U?
"Will You Rise to the Challenge?"
WVX is returning with "Can't Hold the Mic". This month's theme is Cultural Awareness. All participants MUST have an original poem or song, or even a dance to a poem or song about who THEY are as a person. This could be ethnicity, personal history, family history, sexual orientation, personal growth. All nationalities, creeds, and cultures are welcome. THIS IS TO PROMOTE CULTURAL AWARENESS.
SIGN-UPS are HERE. Walk-ins will be accepted but the poem MUST be within the limits of the theme.
Instructions for sign-ups:
1) Write your name and the title of the poem on the wall of this page.
2) The order will be ascertained by the order that the names and titles appear on the event wall.
3) Songs are permitted and encouraged if they are original.
4) IF TIME PERMITS, participants will be able to perform more than one poem or song, etc. But the content will still have to be relevant to "Cultural Awareness: Who R U?"
5) Be prompt to the event. Those who are not present when their performance is up will be overlooked and time may not permit a second chance to perform.
6) Have fun, be respectful, and most importantly XPRESS!!!

Accepting New Members
For those who are able to travel and/or already located in the Greensboro area UNC-Greensboro's own Well Versed Xpressionz is currently accepting new members.
What do you have to do?
Prospective members will have to:
a] Come to one of the following interest meetings held on February 3, 2009 or February 10, 2009 in the EUC Maple Room located on the campus of UNCG. The time will be 5PM sharp. Tardiness is not a desirable trait for prospective members so please be on time.
You will need to bring with you:
a] Three printed copies of your original work [be it songs, poetry, etc.] with the DATE written/composed included (this can be approximate if necessary)
b] A pen or other standard writing utensil [there will be a form to fill out for information and to get to know what you expect from this organization]
c] A willingness to PERFORM a poem for the organization at the interest meeting. This doesn't mean that your work has to be memorized but it does mean that you will need to practice the poem you will present to us even if you are reading it.
d] Positive attitudes are treasured here so be sure to bring that as well
e] Confidence. This will of course build throughout the semester but bring it with you to the meeting because it will be helpful
The rest of the requirements for membership will be explained at the interest meeting that you attend. Please, if you have any questions contact the head officer, Rakeem Person, at 336-965-9151 or the vice president, Wil Mitchell at 336-986-6002.
We look forward to seeing all of you.
